In der neueren Matthäusforschung wurde die gut fundierte These aufgestellt, dass die endgültige Form des Matthäusevangeliums das Ergebnis eines umfangreichen Reflexionsprozesses darstellt. Dabei wurden zum einen Jesus-Überlieferungen berücksichtigt und zum anderen die Schriften Israels untersucht, um beide Elemente miteinander zu verknüpfen. Zhuen Wei untersucht und beschreibt diesen Prozess, bei dem die zitierten Schriftstellen in ihrem Kontext reflektiert und mit der Jesusgeschichte in Beziehung gesetzt werden. Er analysiert differenziert, welchen Beitrag die christologischen Prophetenzitate zur Formulierung und Entwicklung der matthäischen Christologie im Prolog leisten und verdeutlicht die zentrale Rolle der Schriftreflexion bei der Entstehung von Mt 1,1-4,16.
