TöbbHosszú leírás:
This Omnibus brings together the seminal writings of distinguished academician, C.A. Bayly. It consists of three books and an article: The Local Roots of Indian Politics: Allahabad 1880-1920 (Oxford University Press 1975): analyses the participation of prominent leaders and different groups in colonial institutions and the freedom movement in Uttar Pradesh.
'Rural Conflict and the Roots of Indian Nationalism: Allahabad District since 1800' from Paul R. Brass and Francis Robinson (ed.), The Indian National Congress and Indian Society, 1885-1985: Ideology, Social Structure and Political Dominance (Chanakya Publications 1986) explores Congress alliance with powerful interests in the countryside and the conservatism of rural politics in central UP. Rulers, Townsmen, and Bazaars: North Indian Society in the Age of British Expansion
1770-1870 (Cambridge University Press 1983): traces the evolution of north Indian towns, rural bazaars, and merchant communities and networks from the decline of Mughal dominion to the consolidation of Britain's empire in India following the 1857 'mutiny'.
Origins of Nationality in South Asia: Patriotism and Ethical Government in the Making of Modern India (Oxford University Press 1998): deals with the ideological and social background of India's regional and pan-Indian nationalist movements that emerged at the end of the nineteenth century.
