Gleichheit als eines der dogmatisch anspruchsvollsten verfassungsrechtlichen Konzepte ist stets wertgebunden. Wann zwei Individuen hinreichend gleich für eine Gleichbehandlung oder hinreichend ungleich für eine Ungleichbehandlung sind, ist nicht ohne Wertungen zu beantworten. Diese hängen von den jeweiligen Gerechtigkeitsvorstellungen einer Gesellschaft ab und sind damit im Kern kulturell vorgeprägt. Es überrascht daher nicht, dass sich das Verständnis von Gleichheit in verschiedenen Kulturen wesentlich unterscheidet. Der vorliegende Tagungsband hat es sich zur Aufgabe gemacht, einen rechtsvergleichenden Blick auf diese Unterschiede zu werfen. Betrachtet werden hierzu, teils allgemein, teils anhand konkreter Einzelfragen, die Kontexte des islamischen und des traditionellen afrikanischen Rechts sowie das Gleichheitsverständnis in Russland, Südkorea und Schweden.
