Lenin Prado untersucht anhand der ägyptischen Plagen (Ex 7-11) und der Berufung des Mose (Ex 3-4) die Beziehung zwischen priesterlichen und jahwistischen Erzählungen im Pentateuch. Er argumentiert, dass die Priesterschrift (P) von seinem jahwistischen Gegenstück (J) abhängig ist und durch verschiedene literarische Techniken den Plagezyklus von J so umformt, dass er mit der eigenen theologischen und ideologischen Agenda übereinstimmt. Mit seiner Studie versucht er zu zeigen, dass die Überarbeitungen nicht einfach Ergänzungen darstellen, sondern darauf abzielten, P als eigenständige Quelle mit einem eigenen Erzählstrang zu etablieren. Die Beweggründe hierfür sind in dem Anliegen der priesterlichen Gemeinschaft zu suchen, die Geschichte des Exodus Israels umzuschreiben, um die eigene theologische Agenda zu unterstützen und die eigene Version der heiligen Geschichte Israels im Gegensatz zur jahwistischen Darstellung zu festigen.
