This book addresses the Italian sword-and-sandal film, also called the 'peplum', an enormously popular genre of the late 1950s and 1960s in Italy, the United States, and numerous other parts of the world. It still has a large following, as one can discern from the number of DVDs now available of the films, and the number of websites and conventions that have continued to be devoted to the major contributors to the genre: figures such as Steve Reeves, Sergio Leone, Gordon Scott, Lea Massari, and even Anita Ekberg.
