Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a ubiquitous problem that is alarming the world with high prevalence. MetS, also known by other names including syndrome X, insulin resistance syndrome, and dysmetabolic syndrome, constitutes a group of disorders associated with the metabolism of biomolecules and is characterized by hypertension, insulin resistance, cardiovascular diseases, dyslipidaemia, obesity, etc. The pathophysiology of MetS is presumed to involve genetic as well as lifestyle factors including dietary habits, physical activity and perhaps interrupted sleep patterns.
