Das Lexikon der Bibelhermeneutik führt die einschlägigen Grundbegriffe, Methoden, Spezialbegriffe sowie historischen und aktuellen Konzeptionen der Verstehenslehre der Bibel unter dem leitenden Gesichtspunkt einer textbezogenen Hermeneutik zusammen. Theologische Modelle der Bibelhermeneutik werden mit geistes- und kulturwissenschaftlichen Modellen des allgemeinen Textverstehens in einen innovativen Dialog gebracht. Die Artikel werden von Vertretern der beteiligten theologischen Fächer sowie von den entsprechenden sprach- und literaturwissenschaftlichen Disziplinen, der Philosophie und den Religionswissenschaften (Judaistik und Islamwissenschaft) erarbeitet. Die so entstehende enzyklopädisch strukturierte Texthermeneutik der Bibel und ihrer Teiltexte versteht die kanonische Fassung der Bibel als Supertext, dessen Teiltexte zu dem kanonischen Textcorpus der „Bibel“ zusammengestellt wurden, für das seit der Alten Kirche immer wieder spezielle Verstehenslehren entworfen wurden und dessen Auslegungsgeschichte eine eigene Textkultur bildet, die sich in einem ständigen Austausch mit philologischen, philosophischen und literatur- und sprachwissenschaftlichen Modellen von Hermeneutik und Interpretation befindet.
The Dictionary of Biblical Hermeneutics brings together concepts relating to the theories, methods and conceptions of Bible interpretations under the central heading of a text-referenced hermeneutics.
The resultant textual hermeneutics of the Bible forms a new paradigm which does not regard the Bible primarily as Gospel or Holy Scripture but views it from a textual and literary studies perspective as a "Supratext". The dictionary is targeted at scholars in both theology and cultural studies.
The work involves conventional intratheological models of biblical hermeneutics in an innovative dialogue with contemporary models for understanding texts.
