The Churches of the Union. History - Theology - Perspectives
The union between Lutherans and Reformed at the beginning of the 19th century is underestimated, its formative function for most regional churches in Germany is mostly unknown. Mediation theology and liberalism created different theological systems within the Union that deserve historical respect. At the same time, the idea of the Union today faces new challenges in the communication processes of the so-called "Uniting Churches" in the context of ecumenism, confession and development.
The book gives an overview of the history of the German Union Churches, of theologies and theologians. In addition there are case studies on the history of the Union from all continents as well as a study on the role of the Union Churches today.
