Apart from the author s maturing into an economist of repute, the book discusses many of the economic landmarks since Independence, such as the Second Five-Year Plan, foreign aid and the controls regime, the response to the war with China and gold control, the 1966 devaluation, the nationalization of banks, the Bangladesh war, the
beginning of systemic corruption, the politicization of economic institutions, and the response to the second oil crisis.
