Heute ist bekannt, dass nach 1933 aus dem nationalsozialistischen Machtbereich ca. 18.000 Juden und ca. 2.000 weitere Emigranten in Italien Zuflucht fanden, unter ihnen zahlreiche Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler. Auch in vatikanischen Institutionen sowie im exterritorial gelegenen Campo Santo Teutonico, der ältesten deutschen Nationalstiftung Roms, fanden deutschsprachige Forscher nach 1933 Zuflucht, aber eine intensivere Beschäftigung mit diesem Thema stand noch aus. Eine im März 2013 zum 125-jährigen Bestehen des Römischen Instituts der Görres-Gesellschaft (RIGG) im Campo Santo durchgeführte Tagung hatte das Anliegen, dieses Forschungsdesiderat zu schließen. Der vorliegende Band dokumentiert die Tagungsbeiträge. Ein spannendes Stück deutscher Wissenschaftsgeschichte.
