La Mettries Kernidee der 'tugendhaften Lust' ist erstaunlicherweise heute noch aktuell. Sie geht zurück auf eine Quelle, die von der Forschung bisher kaum berücksichtigt wurde: die These Jacques'. Hochsensible Rezipienten wie Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Friedrich Albert Lange und Panajotis Kondylis haben diese Idee zwar wahrgenommen, konnten sie aber nicht rational verarbeiten und reagierten mit Verdrängung. Einzig Bernd A. Laska rückte sie ins Zentrum seiner Interpretation, die er jedoch nicht überzeugend begründen konnte. Die vorliegende Arbeit behebt dieses Defizit in drei Schritten: Auf die 'relecture' der wichtigsten Textstellen aus La Mettrie folgen die ausführliche Diskussion seiner Quelle und die Analyse einiger Stationen der 'Re(pulsions- und De)zeptionsgeschichte'.
