Die Suasorien des älteren Seneca (ca. 50 v. Chr. - 40 n. Chr.) - die einzigen lateinischen Suasorien, die aus der Antike überliefert wurden - sind bis jetzt unkommentiert geblieben. Der vorliegende Kommentar schließt diese Lücke und unterstützt den Leser bei der Lektüre der nicht immer einfach verständlichen Deklamationsexzerpte. Dem Kommentar voran gehen eine Neuedition des schlecht überlieferten Textes sowie eine Einleitung, in der übergreifende Probleme der Forschung zum älteren Seneca bzw. zur antiken Deklamation (Die Suasorie, Die Geschichte der Deklamation, Die sententiae, divisiones und colores, Überblick über die erhaltenen antiken Suasorien u.a.m.) behandelt werden. Allen an der Schulrhetorik und der Kultur der frühen Kaiserzeit Interessierten wird in diesem Buch ein von der Forschung vernachlässigtes Gebiet grundlegend erschlossen.
