"?" (or "Interrobang") is an experimental piece of visual writing in which questions on the subjects of art, font, the author-reader relationship, anxiety, egotism, punctuation, absurdism, self-referential humor and language are embodied, examined, and exaggerated. Some of the vignettes include an interview with the author, a science fiction story about lemonade, an essay on obscure punctuation, and multitudes of self-indulgent speculations on the nature of writing. The author, admittedly conceitedly, attempts to force the audience to examine literary norms. Looking at the current formatting cage in which culture and convention has trapped the written word for far too long, "?" asks how to break free and revel in the meaningless liberty that is a blank sheet. This book is less an embodiment of its writing principles as it is a guidebook. It is at the same time a subversive instruction manual of how to take the other manuals less seriously and a challenge to the next generation of artists who wish to fearlessly explore beyond our self-imposed consensus.
