Read Write Inc. is a systematic and dynamic literacy programme, rooted in phonics.
In the Get Writing! Red Ditty Books, children read four engaging Ditties. They complete seven reading activities to ensure that their reading is fully supported. These include practising Speed Sounds/Speed Words before and after reading the complete Ditty, sounding out 'green' and 'red' words, and discussing 'questions to talk about' after reading.
The Get Writing! Books contain activities linked to the core Storybooks in Read Write Inc., and to selected Non-fiction books for each level. The writing activities build on the reading activities that children have completed, helping them to develop ideas and vocabulary for writing.
The Get Writing! Teacher's Handbook provides step-by-step guidance on how to teach writing as part of the Read Write Inc. programme and detailed plans for writing lessons linked to the Storybooks and Non-fiction books. The CD-ROM (for use on an IWB) provides writing frames and modelling activities, 'banks' of powerful words, and planning sheets for extended writing tasks.
