Die vorliegende Untersuchung zu Sakrament und Schrift bei Augustinus, seine Deutung von Liturgie und Bibel, zeigt am Beispiel von Ad inquisitiones Ianuarii und weiterer Zeugnisse im österlichen Kontext einen Zusammenhang zwischen seinem Sakraments- und Schriftverständnis. Indem Augustinus auf liturgische Fragen des Januarius antwortet, erörtert er sein Osterverständnis in dem theologischen Traktat mit dem Thema "de sacramentis". Dabei entfaltet er eine hermeneutische Methode, die er auf Bibel und Liturgie anwendet. Seine Ostertheologie, die Rede von der Form und dem Inhalt des christlichen Ostern, wendet Augustinus in Predigt und Liturgie auch praktisch an.
