Dieser Teilband der Gesammelten Schriften von Friedrich A. von Hayek in deutscher Sprache enthält Aufsätze zu wesentlichen Fragen der Ordnungsökonomik, die in den Jahren 1938 bis 1984 veröffentlicht wurden. Systematisch werden darin sowohl Hayeks wesentliche Gedanken zur Bedeutung von Ordnungen als auch seine Auffassungen von Wettbewerb als Koordinationsmechanismus und Ordnungsfaktor sowie sein Verständnis von individueller Freiheit in der marktwirtschaftlichen Ordnung wiedergegeben.
