Stendhal nahm an diesem Feldzug teil, er war Augenzeuge und die Memoiren der Soldaten gehörten zu seiner Lieblingslektüre. Auch Balzac verewigte den Mut der Soldaten, Heinrich Heine, Theodor Fontane und Johann Peter Hebel beschrieben ihn ebenfalls.
