Stirbt die bretonische Sprache oder lebt sie weiter? Der Sprachtod wird ihr schon lange prognostiziert; doch Sprachen leben auch, weil ihre SprecherInnen es so wollen. Deshalb ist Bretonisch weiterhin Mittel alltäglicher Kommunikation in Teilen der ländlichen Bretagne. Es geht um eine Standortbestimmung der Minderheitensprache im Konflikt mit dem Französischen. In einer Fallstudie der Dorfgemeinde Ploumoguer sollen jene Interpretationsmuster erfaßt werden, die das sprachliche Handeln in Alltagsinteraktionen steuern. Theoretischer Ausgangspunkt ist das im Symbolischen Interaktionismus verankerte Konzept sozialer Netzwerke. Das Ergebnis ist die Forderung nach einer grundlegenden Richtungsänderung der französischen Sprachpolitik, wenn das Überleben des Bretonischen gesichert werden soll.
