Christian Irrgang beobachtet Menschen, meistens Persönlichkeiten aus Kultur und Politik. Mehrere Jahre lang begleitete er u.a. die Bundespräsidenten Rau und Köhler. Das Ergebnis waren die Bildbände "Johannes Rau - Portrait eines Präsidenten" und "Horst Köhler - der Mensch, der Präsident". 2004 dokumentierte Christian Irrgang die Japan-Tournee der Berliner Philharmonikern unter Sir Simon Rattle. Für Sandra Maischberger fotografierte er die Interviewbücher mit Helmut Schmidt und Hildegard Hamm-Brücher, mit Roger Willemsen reiste er durch Afghanistan, mit Bartholomäus Grill durch Madagaskar und Tadschikistan. 2010 umsegelte er die Ostsee, allein in einem Holzboot. Daraus entstand der Band "OSTSEE linksherum". Christian Irrgang arbeitet regelmäßig für für STERN, VIEW, GEO, CICERO und CHRISMON.
