    In this study, the Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) images were used to map the lithology, the alteration zones related to gold mineralization and the structural patterns at the Fawakhir area, Central Eastern Desert of Egypt. Integration of band rationing and Principal Component Analysis (PCA) was used to clearly determine the lithological units of the study area.Field visits and laboratory microscopic examination of thin and polished sections were used for validation process.
