In dieser Studie wurden Bilder des Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) verwendet, um die Lithologie, die mit der Goldmineralisierung verbundenen Alterationszonen und die strukturellen Muster im Gebiet Fawakhir in der zentralöstlichen Wüste Ägyptens zu kartieren.Durch die Integration von Bandrationierung und Hauptkomponentenanalyse (PCA) konnten die lithologischen Einheiten des Untersuchungsgebiets eindeutig bestimmt werden. Zur Validierung wurden Feldbesuche und mikroskopische Untersuchungen von dünnen und polierten Schnitten im Labor durchgeführt.
