This is not a dictionary or simple summary of findings but a series of substantial essays. . . . As we might expect, the effect is impressive. The contributors in general write well and clearly and the text is carefully laid out and meticulously referenced. An index of references and a subject index make access to the details of the handbook easy and logical.
