Der Landsberger Künstler Johann Mutter (1902-1974) hat nur etwa 300 Gemälde hinterlassen. Das liegt hauptsächlich daran, dass die von den Nazis verordnete Schaffenspause in den 1940er Jahren vom Künstler für das Fotografieren wichtiger Kunstwerke in Bayern und Baden-Württemberg genutzt wurde. Dennoch verfolgte Johann Mutter sämtliche Kunstströme und war besonders von Max Beckmann beeindruckt. Der vor liegende Band ergänzt die vorangegangenen drei Bücher um wichtige Gemälde und zeigt auf, dass der Maler überregionale Bedeutung verdient hat.
