In den romanischen Sprachen lassen sich Sprachwandelprozesse aufgrund der Quellenlage besonders gut rekonstruieren. Im vorliegenden Arbeitsheft steht die Grammatikalisierung als Schlüssel zur Geschichte der romanischen Sprachen im Zentrum.
Basierend auf den vier großen romanischen Sprachen – Französisch, Italienisch, Portugiesisch und Spanisch – werden die Prozesse der Grammatikalisierung am Beispiel der zentralen grammatischen Bereiche dargestellt. Die wichtigsten Theorien und Methoden werden quellennah und anhand vieler sprachlicher Beispiele aufbereitet und veranschaulicht. Übungen am Ende jedes Kapitels machen die Inhalte zugänglich und nachvollziehbar.
Im Studium eignet sich gerade das Thema der Grammatikalisierung besonders dazu, an die Sprachgeschichte heranzuführen und auch ohne Lateinkenntnisse historische Prozesse zu verstehen, deren Fortdauer wir bis heute im Sprachgebrauch beobachten können.
