MoreLong description:
This book investigates the challenges being experienced in the traditional procurement methods for road infrastructure in developing countries and explores the features of Public Private Partnerships (PPP) as an alternative procurement method with the potential of achieving a more sustainable highway network in Nigeria and other developing countries of Africa.
The book starts with an investigation into the challenges of traditional Design Bid Build (DBB) procurement methods before examining the features of PPP and its potentials as an alternative procurement method for highway development, operation and maintenance, including developing and validating a PPP framework and model for application in the sustainable development and construction of highways. The PPP model developed from the study is expected to enhance decision making in the choice between the DBB and PPP methods during project planning and procurement stages. The author has developed a simple framework, illustrated in a single pictorial display the interconnected relationships, the performances of both the procurement methods, and the possible enhancement of the DBB method and the implementation procedure of the PPP method for sustainable highway infrastructure in developing countries.
The framework developed and explained in this book will be of benefit to infrastructure leaders and policy makers, regulators, operators, maintenance agencies and contractors in developing countries and researchers and academics studying infrastructure procurement and delivery methods.
