Joseph Schmidt (1904 - 1942) war als Tenor ein Weltstar. Nachdem er 1933 nach der Premiere seines Filmes "Ein Lied geht um die Welt" vor den Nazis geflohen war, debütierte er 1937 unter frenetischem Jubel in der New Yorker Carnegie Hall. Schmidt verstarb auf tragische Weise in einem Internierungslager in der Schweiz - doch sein Gesang bleibt unvergessen.
