"Partecipazione" war eine der Kernforderungen der 1970er-Jahre an eine offene, demokratische Biennale, ebenso das Arbeiten vor Ort im Kontext Venedigs. Diese beiden Ansätze greift der österreichische Beitrag zur 18. Internationale Architekturausstellung La Biennale di Venezia 2023 auf und beleuchtet dabei kritisch die Raumpraxis Venedigs wichtigster Kulturinstitution. Unter dem Titel "Partecipazione/Beteiligung" planen AKT & Hermann Czech einen gesellschaftlich wirksamen temporären Umbau des Österreichischen Pavillons in den historischen Giardini. Der Pavillon wird geteilt, eine Hälfte zum angrenzenden Wohnquartier geöffnet und frei zugänglich an die Bevölkerung Venedigs abgetreten. Die Publikation formuliert ökonomische, sozialräumliche und architekturtheore-tische Aussagen, die der Konzeption des österreichischen Beitrags zugrunde liegen. Internationale und lokale Autor*innen und Organisationen beleuchten den prekären Zustand der Stadt sowie das ambivalente Verhältnis zwischen Venedig und Biennale.
