In the 'Sämmtlichen Werken' of his father, Schelling's son reveals his father's entries into his own copy which he used for lectures. These entries are also contained in this volume. The texts have been provided with a text-critical apparatus, explanations, an editorial report and indexes. After the first two works on the philosophy of nature, the 'Ideen zu einer Philosophie der Natur', (Ideas for a Philosophy of Nature) (Vol. 1,5) and 'Von der Weltseele' (On the World Soul) (Vol. 1,6), Schelling presented in this work the 'Entwurf des Systems der Naturphilosophie' (First Outline of a System of the Philosophy of Nature).
