Auf 'Excess' entwickeln Automatic einen ganz eigenen, retrofuturistischen Motorik-Pop. Das Album bewegt sich an der imaginären Grenze, an der der Underground der 70er Jahre auf die Corporate-Kultur der 80er Jahre traf.Es ist jener flüchtige Moment in der Geschichte, den sie als Ausgangspunkt für ihre Musik nehmen; ein Brennglas, um die Gegenwart zu betrachten und die zeitgenössische Unternehmenskultur und die ihr innewohnende Maßlosigkeit aufs Korn zu nehmen.
Im April war die Band in den USA und Kanada bereits mit IDLES und Parquet Courts auf Tour. Ende Mai folgen weitere Supportshows, diesmal mit Tame Impala. Im Juni kann man das Trio dann auch endlich hierzulande erleben, beim Maifeld Derby, in Berlin und Köln.
