MoreLong description:
Physical activity is a key element in maintaining the independence and quality of life of older people. It is vitally important that those in the caring professions working with the elderly are aware of the capabilities and expectations of older people in this respect.
Originally published in 1984, different aspects of activity in relation to old age are examined in this book. These include not only physical exercise and occupational therapy activities, but also activities of daily living, leisure, housework and shopping. An analysis is made of the attitudes of professional groups, such as nurses, to their elderly patients or clients. The author shows that, at the time, the professionals needed greater education about the needs of the elderly who cannot be considered as an homogeneous group.
