Particular emphasis is placed on studies which transcend the boundaries of individual disciplines.

Man kann die Bedeutung der antiken Mythologie für die Dichtung, das Theater, die Musik, die bildenden Künste, die Emblematik, die Feste in der Zeit der Renaissance kaum überschätzen. Das vom Wolfenbütteler Arbeitskreis für die Renaissanceforschung veranstaltete Kolloquium über "Renaissancekultur und antike Mythologie" (Herzog August Bibliothek, 7. bis 10. Oktober 1996, Leitung B. Guthmüller), dessen Ergebnisse der vorliegende Band sammelt, setzte sich einerseits zum Ziel, eine Reihe von neuen und weniger bekannten Aspekten des Mythos in der Renaissancekultur genauer zu beleuchten, andererseits in umstrittenen Fragen neuen Deutungen und Bewertungen Raum zu geben.
