India is a unique country with enormous and unbelievable variety in every sphere. There are large disparities and inequalities arising from the country's history, geography, divisions, culture, language and the administrative challenges. There are several sections of religions, class, society, castes, tribes, groups and creeds where each has its own set of personal laws and different cultural practices and languages to a particular local flavour. Among these sections the caste system in Indian society plays a vital role in the social, cultural, political and even economical aspects of Indian life. On the basis of this caste system Indian society is heterogeneous and peculiarly maintains homogeneous life style. However each caste differs on the basis of various factors and interestingly shows similarities at whole. Accordingly this book examines the origin, history, culture, practices and other related aspects of the Kuruba caste of Karnataka state.
