Delivery options

Delivery costs apply as per the chart below. It is based on the value of the order, not on weight.

If you use any other way to order, regardless of the value of you order, the door to door delivery charge (incl. VAT) is 1 990 HUF. In case of orders not placed online we only deliver ordered items together if they are all in stock. If some items are out of stock, it is likely that they will arrive at different times. This means we will deliver them in separate packages.

Please make sure you choose an address (e.g. work address) where someone is available to take the package on weekdays between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. There is no need to handle cash at delivery if you chose online payment by card.

If the courier returns your parcel to us due to failed delivery attempt(s) we will charge you for reshipping costs as well.

  • Delivery by Foxpost locker

Foxpost delivery costs apply as per the chart below. They are based on the value of the order, not on weight.

If you use any other way to order, regardless of the value of you order, the charge to a Foxpost locker is 990 HUF. In case of orders not placed online we only deliver ordered items together if they are all in stock. If some items are out of stock, it is likely that they will arrive at different times. This means we will deliver them in separate packages.

If you choose delivery by parcel locker, you can either make payment online with bank card or ask for our proforma invoice and make payment by bank transfer. Payment at the locker is not accepted.

If you choose delivery by parcel locker, please make sure to pick up your books within the timeframe given by Foxpost. If your parcel is returned to us we will charge you for reshipping costs as well.

    Online payment is not required when an order has been placed. A pro forma invoice will be emailed to you after your order has arrived to our office.

Standard payment terms are 8 days, which can be modified to 15 days, if required. Other terms can be negotiated.

Pricing policy


Information on repair and replacement

We can perform the claims for product repair and product replacement in accordance with the conditions of the publishers, taking into consideration the Hungarian laws and regulations, with special regard to the contracts concluded between absentee parties.

Smaller, aesthetic damages
We always look for delivery options ensuring safety for books and other items. Still, there are cases, when we receive slightly damaged books. In these cases, we can order a replacement on customer request. Delivery time might be slower than usual.

Shortages, major damages
In the case of such claims, we can order replacement book / loose-leaf on customer request without additional charge depending on the concerned publisher's policy.

Other data carriers
Replacements/claims will be handled in accordance with the publishers' terms and conditions. Most publishers replace these products if they cannot be properly used. In the latter case we provide replacement and the correction/amending programs.

Subscriptions, loose-leaf claims
In the case of certain subscriptions or loose-leaf claims the publisher may not post or may not post in full the renewals. Replacements/claims will be handled in accordance with the publishers' terms and conditions.

Prices, when the order is not placed in the webshop

If you place your order online, in our webshop, the prices shown there are valid. In this case, there is no need to read further. This section explains prices for orders placed otherwise. Our price policies are simple and clear. If the customer knows the publisher's list price, he/she can easily make a rough calculation of our prices also.

Of course we are always ready to give a price quotation if required.

Book prices are solely based on the country where they are published. Other data carrier prices depend on the publisher: whether it is a professional one or not. These are detailed below.

Pricing is valid when an order is picked up personally in our office, or in one of the Prospero Partner Points. Delivery to door is further cost. Please check home delivery fees here

Please note that publisher's list prices might change. The exchange rate of HUF might also change. These changes can alter prices slightly.

Please note that we only amend exchange rate of HUF, when the changes are above 2-3%, to avoid daily price alterations.

We reserve the right to modify our pricing policy with prior notice to our current customers, although no such changes are planned in the near future.


Books

1st category: books published in Great Britain, USA and Germany, plus in certain cases, books published by major publishing houses from elsewhere (we are happy to provide information on the latter). Spanish books available in our internet bookshop are also in this category.

For such publications we usually apply this pricing (even if they are published by a professional publisher). If you want to order such items, please ask for a price quotation.

Self-publishing books are not part of this category. Please see the 3rd category. Please note such books are not present in our internet bookshop.

Pricing: For books of other origin our pricing policy is less strict. If it is very costly to obtain a book, we calculate the total price with international shipping charges, bank transfer (up to 7000 HUF), and 0-25% handling charges. Books from outside the EU might also be subject to customs charges. International shipping charges cannot be calculated in advance, as it mainly depends on weight.

Self-publishing books – regardless of the place of publication – belong to this category.

Please ask for a price quotation to avoid misunderstandings.

Please note that a number of remarkable international publishers (eg. Kluwer, Birkhäuser, Karger) belong in the 1st category even if they are not based in any of the countries listed there.

I. Products of professional publishers (other than books)

1st category: products published in Great Britain, USA and Germany, plus in certain cases, products published in Austria or Switzerland, or by major publishers from elsewhere (we are happy to provide information on the latter).

2nd category: products published in Italy, Spain and France. (Please note that Spanish publications available in our internet bookshop belong in the 1st category.)

II. Products of non-professional publishers (other than books)

This category includes CD-ROMs, DVDs and other data carriers of institutions, associations regardless of the place of publishing. Catalogues, brochures, conference materials, scores, patents, loose leafs and various others special products (even if their publisher is a professional one) also fall under this category.

If it is very costly to obtain a product we calculate the total price with international shipping charges, bank transfer (up to 7000 HUF), and 0-25% handling charges. Items from outside the EU might also be subject to customs charges. International shipping charges cannot be calculated in advance, as it mainly depends on weight.

Delivery time

You will find an estimated delivery time with each webshop item. Please refer to these. Delivery times in the below list are more general, and are not guaranteed. They only apply to items in stock at the publisher. Deliver time depends on the speed of service and the geographical distance of the given publisher as well. Small publishers may be slow in fulfilling orders.

  • Any books in stock at Prospero: they can be picked up at our office right after you receive our confirmation. Delivery to door takes 2-3 business days
  • Major English and American publishers: 3-5 weeks
  • Other English publishers: 3-6 weeks
  • American publishers (shipping from the USA): 3-6 weeks
  • German, Austrian, Swiss publishers (German language): 2-4 weeks
  • French publishers: 3-5 weeks
  • Spanish, Portuguese publishers: 6-8 weeks
  • Italian publishers: 6-8 weeks (sometimes even longer)
  • Czech, Polish publishers: 3-8 weeks
  • other European publishers: 3-8 weeks

Urgent orders via courier or air mail

We usually advise to choose regular shipping methods we offer. If you would like to receive your order faster you can get it shipped via courier or air mail in most cases. These shipping options are very costly and not available with every publisher. Please call us for information on shipping options and expected costs before you place an urgent order.

What you should know about ordering


What happens after we receive an order?

Orders (placed by any method) will be processed and confirmed. (We do not send confirmation for orders placed in our internet bookshop because you can easily check the status of your orders in the 'Your orders' menu anytime.)

Within the shortest time possible we forward the order to the publisher or the European distributor of the publisher. After receiving our order, publishers dispatch titles in stock or register the order for later supply, if the book is temporary not available, or cancel the order, if the book has gone out of print. Possible reasons why a book is temporary not available:

  • the book is not yet published. Please note that announced publishing dates are subject to change
  • the book is being reprinted. In certain cases, months, or a year passes, before a publisher decides to reprint a title, or call it out of print
  • the book is out of stock. These titles mostly become available within a few weeks, or a couple of months

Please note that delivery times can vary due to the above. As these are beyond our control, we are not able to cancel orders, only in cases, where delivery is definitely uncertain.

US prices - European prices

These prices might differ. Some publishers set one price for the book, others use two different prices. As most Internet sites provide prices in USD, these might not be the exact European list prices. Please note that the majority of the US publishers sell books to Europe in GBP.

If there is a European distributor for a US publisher, it holds the sole rights to sell in the Continent. We therefore sell books at the list price of the European distributor. The European list price is roughly the same and the US list price, in most cases. Delivery time is shorter.

Prices, when a book can only be ordered from another book store (not the publisher)

After receiving an order, we always try to find the publisher of the book. The order is then sent to the publisher, or the European distributor. Prices apply as described above. There are certain cases, though, when neither we, nor the customer can provide publisher information. In these instances, we can order the book from another bookstore. Usual pricing does not apply to such orders, as there might be additional costs. We provide a price quotation to the customer, and place the order only after receiving confirmation.

We reserve the right to turn down acquiring a book that is available only at another bookseller. If we do so, we inform the customer.

Information on Contracts Concluded Between Absentee Parties


Information on Contracts Concluded between Absentee Parties in accordance with the provisions of Government Decree No. 45/2014 (February 26) on the Detailed Rules of the Contracts Concluded between a Consumer and an Undertaking ("Government Decree") effective as of June 13, 2014

Pursuant to Section 8:1 (3) of Act V of 2013 on the Civil Code the consumer is a natural person, who is acting outside the scope of his/her trade, individual profession or business activity.

The Government Decree stipulates certain rules on the information and the performance related to the consumer contract and it further stipulates the detailed rules concerning the conclusion of the contract and the right of withdrawal and cancellation in case of absentee consumer contracts and consumer contracts concluded outside of business premises.

You can submit and communicate your eventual complaints at any of the above contact information and we will handle your complaint depending on the subject matter and the method of communication within the shortest possible period of time by complying with the applicable provisions of the laws and regulations.

In accordance with the provisions of the Government Decree, we provide information on the right of withdrawal and cancellation of the consumer with the help of the sample information on withdrawal and cancellation set forth in Annex 1 to the Government Decree.

Right of Withdrawal/Cancellation
You are entitled to withdrawal from this contract without reasoning within 14 days. Similarly, in the event that the performance of the contract has commenced in case of a contract aimed at the provision of services, you are entitled to cancel the contract without reasoning within 14 days.

The deadline for withdrawal/cancellation:
(i) in case of a contract aimed at the provision of services expires after 14 days of the day of the conclusion of the contract;
(ii) in case of a product sale and purchase contract: expires after 14 days of the day when you or the third person not identical to the transporter designated by you takes over the product;
(iii) in case of the provision of more products expires after 14 days of the day when you or the third person not identical to the transporter designated by you takes over the last product;
(iv) in case of the provision of a product consisting of more items or pieces expires after 14 days of the day when you or the third person not identical to the transporter designated by you takes over the last item or piece;
(v) in case of a contract aimed at the regular provision of a product within a fixed period of time expires after 14 days of the day when you or the third person not identical to the carrier designated by you takes over the first product.

In the event that you wish to exercise your right of withdrawal/cancellation, you must send your express statement on your intention to withdraw/cancel (eg. via post, fax or a letter sent electronically) to the following address:

You exercise your right of withdrawal/cancellation if you send your statement on withdrawal/cancellation before the expiry of the above stipulated deadline.

The legal effects of withdrawal/cancellation

If you withdraw from this contract we refund all consideration provided by you without delay but at the latest within 14 days of receipt of your statement on withdrawal, including the costs of transportation (with the exception of additional charges that arose due to the fact that you chose a method of transportation different from the cheapest usual transportation method offered by us). During the refund we use the payment method identical to the payment method of the original transaction unless you expressly consent to the use of another payment method. You are not subject to any additional charges by using this refund method. In case of a product sale and purchase contract we can withhold the refund until we don't receive the product or you do not verify that you sent it back: we have to acknowledge the earlier of the two dates.

You must send or give the product back to us without unjustified delay but at the latest within 14 days of the communication of your statement on withdrawal. The deadline is considered to have been observed if you send back the product before the expiry of the 14-day deadline.
You bear the direct cost of sending back the product. You can only be held responsible for the decrease in value in the product if it occurred due to the use exceeding the use necessary for the establishment of the nature, characteristics and operation of the product.
If you requested that the performance of the service begin within the cancellation deadline, you must refund the amount due for the service provided proportionately until the termination of the contract in case of your cancellation. Similarly, we refund part of the consideration provided by you that exceeds the countervalue of the service provided by us.

The consumer cannot exercise its right of withdrawal/cancellation
(i) in respect of the sale and purchase of sound and picture recording in a closed package and pieces of computer software, if the consumer opened the packaging following the handing over;
(ii) in respect of journals, magazines and periodicals with the exceptions of subscription contracts;
(iii) in respect of digital data content provided not on material data carrier, if the undertaking commenced performance with the express prior consent of the consumer and the consumer simultaneously stated that he/she acknowledged that she would lose the right of withdrawal/cancellation following the commencement of the performance.

In accordance with the provisions of the Government Decree, we provide information on warranty and product guarantee with the help of the sample information in Annex 3 of the Government Decree.

1. Warranty

In which cases can you exercise your warranty right?
In the event of a defective performance by Prospero Könyvei Kft. you can exercise your warranty right against the undertaking according to the rules of the Civil Code.

What kinds of rights are you vested with based on your warranty claim?
You may exercise the following warranty claims as per your choice:
You may request either repair or replacement, unless compliance with the chosen warranty right is impossible or it results in disproportionate expenses on the part of the undertaking as compared to the alternative remedy.
If you did not or could not request repair or replacement, you can ask for a commensurate reduction in the consideration, repair the defect himself/herself or have it repaired at the undertaking's expense, or as a last resort you can withdraw from the contract.

You can switch from the selected warranty right to another but you must cover the cost of switch-over, unless it was justified or made necessary by the undertaking's conduct.

What are the deadlines for exercising the warranty claim?
You must communicate the defect immediately after its discovery but not later than within two months of the discovery of the defect. At the same time I call your attention to the fact that after the two-year forfeit deadline calculated from the performance of the contract you cannot exercise your warranty rights. In case of used products this deadline is one year.

Against whom can you exercise your warranty claim?
You may exercise your warranty claim against the undertaking.

What other conditions are there for the exercise of your warranty rights?
There is no other condition to exercise the warranty claim within six months of the performance other than to communicate the defect if you verify that Prospero Könyvei Kft. undertaking provided the product or the service. Following the expiry of six months after the performance you are obligated to prove that the defect recognized by you already existed at the time of the performance.

2. Product guarantee

In which cases can you exercise your right to product guarantee?
In case of the defect of chattels (product) you may exercise your right stipulated in point 1 above or a claim to product guarantee.

What kinds of rights are you vested with based on your product guarantee claim?
You may only request the repair or replace of the defective product as a product guarantee claim.

When is a product considered defective?
A product is defective, if it does not comply with the quality requirements effective at the time of its distribution or if it does not possess the characteristics stipulated in the description given by the manufacturer.

What are the deadlines for exercising the product guarantee claim?
You may exercise your product guarantee claim within two years of the date when the product was placed on the market by the manufacturer. You lose your right when this deadline expires.

Against whom and under what other conditions can you exercise your product guarantee claim?
You may exercise your product guarantee claim only against the manufacturer or distributor of the chattel. You have the burden of proof regarding the product defect in the event that you exercise your product guarantee claim.

In what cases is the manufacturer (distributor) exempted from its product guarantee obligation?
The manufacturer (distributor) is exempted from its product guarantee obligation only, if it can prove that
- it did not manufacture or place on the market the product within the scope of its business activity, or
- the defect was not recognizable at the time of the placing on the market based on the state of scientific and technical knowledge, or
- the product defect stems from the exercise of a law or regulation or a mandatory stipulation of the authorities.
The manufacturer (distributor) must only prove one cause to be exempted.
I would like to call your attention to the fact that you cannot simultaneously exercise your warranty and product guarantee claim because of the same defect at the same time. If you successfully exercise your product guarantee claim, you may however exercise your warranty claim against the manufacturer in respect of the replaced product or the repaired part.

Pursuant to Section 18(1) on Act CLV of 1997 on Consumer Protection ("Consumer Protection Act") the competence of the arbitration board covers the disputes between consumers and undertakings regarding the quality and safety of products and services, the application of product liability regulations, the quality of services, and relating to the conclusion and performance of contracts (hereinafter referred to as "consumer dispute") with a view to reach an extra-judicial settlement, or failing this to adopt a decision in the case to enforce consumer rights simply and practically and under the principle of cost-efficiency. The arbitration board shall provide advice upon the consumer's or the undertaking's request in connection with the rights and obligations of the consumer. Pursuant to Section 27 of the Consumer Protection Act a precondition for opening arbitration board proceedings is that the consumer has attempted to settle the case directly with the affected undertaking. Pursuant to Section 28(1) of the Consumer Protection Act arbitration board proceedings are opened upon the consumer's request.
